BBC

So, my parents have this thing where everything on television is pretty much trash (which it is, but i still like to watch it). So i have been getting movies from the library that i think we will all like, cause most evenings i'm sitting at home watching t.v. with my parents. So the thing we all like are mysteries. The BBC kind based on Agatha Christie books and the like. so, (i'm gonna see how many sentences i can start with that word), i make at least once a week trips and try and find something acceptable. Sometimes dad and i catch on pretty quick. I'm also beginning to sound like them, at least in my internal dialogue.
It's kind of an intersting study of the British heirarchy. Apparently most of the detectives have these unknown sources of income, or they are some sort of nobility, that have all the time in the world to go galavanting all over the countryside figuring out whodunit. And a majority of them rely on their hired help as their sidekicks. The British humor that pervades is amazing. They are so cynical and sarcastic. my favorite line, said from one Lord Something-or-other to a secretary whom he was thanking, "May your shadow never grow bulkier." somehow i don't see that going over too well here in america.

sorry this is kind of rambling and rather bad writing, so to anyone who suffered through reading this, May your shadow never grow bulkier!

a quick rundown of my summer so far:

work...
cleaning some people's house
helping a caterer
wheat harvest at the elevator
baby sitting
applying for jobs

fun...
hanging out in hillsboro, many times
hanging out with my brothers, sister-in-law, and friends
watching some movies, x-men, pirates...
going to a triple feature drive-in, lady in the water, click, superman
eating
hanging out with my mom
spending a weekend at the lake
getting stranded and having to spend the night places
going to omaha, twice
saw my cousin for the first time in 6 years
read books (i'll post a list when i have it with me)

i guess i just needed to remind myself that i have accomplished something this summer. mostly fun stuff, but that's what really counts anyway, isn't it?

Random Thought #38:
i really like chalkboards. i want a wall or part of a wall in my house to be painted with chalkboard paint and people can draw on the walls. that'd be cool.

Food of Heaven

I love the summer. One of the best things is the food. blts, watermelon, snow cones, corn on the cob, fresh EVERYTHING from the garden, fresh fruit, grilling galor...all sorts of wonderfulness.

anyway, that was a tanget. i was really going to write about the wonderful fourth of july. i got to see a whole bunch of tabor people and it was wonderful. wonnerful. and i'm really sore. pretty sure it's from the water fight. i'm not really used to doing anything physical. pretty sure most of the soreness is from fighting over the hose. ahh, but it was glorious. all of the girls (that played) were soaked. about half of the guys were barely wet. oh, the unfair advantages of size and speed.

it was also great seeing people that i haven't seen yet this summer. and those people that i know from school, but don't really hang out with much. it was a wonderful time catching up and just being in the presence of people i've been used to seeing over the last three years. Some of them i didn't even get a chance to talk to last night, but it was so good to just see them, look at them, if that makes sense. yes, these people are still around, we have a connection, it's like home.

and the food was magnificent. that's probably what got me thinking about food at the beginning of the post. we had brisket, pasta salad, jello fruit salad, watermelon, baked beans, homemade ice cream, carmel apple pecan pie....all heavenly.
